Anushka began an acting course and started auditioning for films alongside her modeling career. Anushka Sharma's first acting role was in the movie Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi alongside Shah Rukh Khan. To get ready for her screen test, she took an entire day. Later, she signed up for three movies together with Yash Raj Films. She played a role as a bride who was young and tied to a man in middle age (the persona Shah Rukh Khan was portraying). The film was hit on the box office and was the second-highest-grossing movie of 2008. Anushka starred with Shahid Kapoor Meiyang Chang and Vir Das in the movie Badmash Company. The film was met with mixed receptions. Anushka was also seen with Ranveer in the movie 'Band Baaja Baaraat' in which she portrayed a Punjabi middle class woman who launched her own venture. The film was well-received and was later a sleeper. The Band Baaja Baaraat anushka's three-film agreement under the Yash Raj Films banner was complete.
